The Inner Wheel Clubs of the Philippines, Inc. District 386, in partnership with the Lapu-Lapu City Government, officially launched the “Pink October” campaign on September 30, 2025, at Island Central Mactan. The initiative marks the beginning of a month-long campaign dedicated to promoting breast cancer awareness, early detection, and access to free medical services for the people of Lapu-Lapu City.
With the theme “Stronger Together With Every Step,” the campaign brings together government agencies, private sector partners, healthcare professionals, and civic organizations to raise awareness and encourage timely screening and treatment of breast cancer.
During the launch, Mayor Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan expressed the City’s unwavering commitment to women’s health and thanked the campaign’s numerous partners for their support.
“Together, let us raise awareness, empower women, and save lives,” said Mayor Chan.
Councilor Dr. Emilio Galaroza Jr., Chairperson of the Committee on Health and Hospital Services, emphasized the life-saving importance of early detection.
“If breast cancer is caught at Stage 0 or 1, the survival rate is 100%. But late-stage detection significantly reduces survival chances. Early screening is critical,” Galaroza said.
Free Medical Services and Community Activities
Throughout the month of October, the City Health Office and partner clinics will provide: Free breast examinations, Referrals for ultrasound and mammogram, Free biopsy for suspected cases, Breast cancer awareness seminars and educational talks and Breast self-examination education. These services will be available at all barangay health centers, Lapu-Lapu City Hospital, and participating private partner clinics.
The event is a joint effort with strong support from the Department of Health Region 7, PhilHealth, Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu Inc. (HRRACI), EVA Airways, Crimson Resort & Spa, Bluewater Maribago, Plantation Bay Resort, Island Central Mactan, and various local schools and civic groups.
Community in Solidarity
During the press conference, HRRACI Board Director Colleen Barcelona emphasized the importance of collective support.
“This isn’t a battle fought alone. It is a collective effort, symbolized by the pink ribbon, to support those facing this challenge and to push for better treatment and a cure,” she said.
Inner Wheel District 386 Chairperson Sunshine B. Lim also reaffirmed the organization’s ongoing advocacy for breast cancer awareness and support programs for patients and survivors.
Pink October is globally recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Lapu-Lapu City proudly joins the movement to educate, empower, and protect lives through proactive health measures.
